Acupressure

Acupressure, Phoenixville PA, Acupuncture Phoenixville PA, chinese medicine, asian bodywork, holistic healing, pain relief, 19460

The ancient healing technique of Acupressure was developed in Asia over 5000 years ago.  Wellness in Harmony is now offering Acupressure sessions in our Phoenixville office.

How Does Acupressure Work?

Acupressure utilizes the body’s natural energy system to increase the flow of energy throughout the body.  It works by activating energy (meridian) points on the body through touch and applying pressure, primarily with fingertips.  Therefore, when these points are stimulated and the flow of energy is increased, it increases circulation, reduces muscle tension, and aids the body’s natural healing process.

Acupuncture and Acupressure are similar practices.  Both methods stimulate the flow of energy throughout the meridian system of the body.  However, Acupuncture differs in the method of stimulation in that it uses thin needles to access and stimulate the meridian points, whereas Acupressure uses touch and pressure.  The pressure used ranges from very light touch to firm pressure.

The Western medical community now more widely recognizes Acupuncture, Acupressure and other methods of Chinese Medicine for their benefits in reducing pain and supporting overall health. These complimentary therapies work in conjunction with medical treatments and studies demonstrate that they improve results during and after medical care.

Upon arrival, Linda will spend a few minutes talking with you about your current state of health. During this time, you will discuss what areas of your body are in need of attention and review any pertinent information about your intentions for the session.

After that, you will then lie down on the massage table.  Linda will guide you through a brief relaxation and breathing exercise, and then begin applying different hand techniques that focus on specific meridian and trigger points that support the areas of your health that are in need of attention.  Throughout the session, you may be guided to support your healing process through different breath techniques.  You will remain fully clothed during the session, so be sure to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

At the end of the session, Linda will then take time to debrief with you, discuss your experience in the session, and offer any suggestions for follow up self care.

Following your session, be sure to drink plenty of water and allow yourself time to relax as your body continues to heal and integrate the experience.
